Former Tucson Pride President Arraigned

TUCSON, Arizona – June 16, 2018 – Former President of Tucson Pride, Jimmy “James” West has been arraigned on multiple felony counts in the Superior Court of Arizona, in Pima County. According to the indictment, a Grand Jury charged West with three felony counts including Fraudulent Scheme and Artifice, Felony Theft, and Computer Tampering. West will be in court again on July 17, 2018 at 9:00AM.

West’s charges stem from alleged misappropriation of Tucson Pride resources throughout 2017, while he served as the President of Tucson Pride. The Board of Directors became aware of West’s alleged activity on September 23, 2017. West was immediately removed from his position and the Board of Directors launched an investigation, in close cooperation with the Tucson Police Department.

Since September, the Board of Directors has worked diligently to establish robust internal controls as well as voluminous audit and fraud detection protocols. Moving forward, the focus of the Board remains on ongoing recovery efforts and fundraising for the 2018 Tucson Pride Festival and Parade.

As Tucson Pride’s largest fundraising event of the year, Tucson Pride relies strongly on community participation including; vendors, volunteers, and sponsors, to produce and operate the oldest LGBTQ Pride event in the State of Arizona. This year’s festival is scheduled for September 29, 2018 at the Georges DeMeester Outdoor Performance Center, at Reid Park. The theme for this year’s event is “New Beginnings.” An appropriate theme as Tucson Pride looks to the future as well as ongoing recovery efforts.
